Even down 3 games to none, the New Jersey Devils have a saying, ‘Just Stay With It’. By doing so they have now forced a game 5 back in Jersey for Saturday night and we will see if their offense can continue where it left off from last night.
It also helped that Martin Brodeur played like no other goalie has played before, stopping everything and anything that was sent his way. Mr. ‘Calm’ Brodeur showed us all why he will be a first time ballot into the Hockey Hall of Fame when he does decide to hang the pads up. The focus and determination from him was so obvious you could see his eyes through his mask, that he was not going to be denied last night and wasn’t going to have his name put against a record of going down 4 straight from the finals (Devils have now gone 43 times without being swept in the playoffs.)
Then you have the young kid at the other end of the ice putting on the smae kind of show that his counter part was doing. Jonathan ‘Lightening’ Quick was hot as well and was really ready to raise the cup for the City of LA LA LAND but it wasn’t meant to be, not quite yet anyway.
Going into the third we all knew this game was going down to whoever didn’t make the final mistake. It was to close to tell as each team traded off chances and then the Devils broke the ice with a goal from veteran Patrik Elias but in 62 seconds and on a man advantage the Kings struck to tie it up with a point shot from Drew Doughty. With just over 4 minutes left the mistake was made and young rookie sensation Adam Henrique of the Devils took control and sent the puck into the net to go up 2-1. Usually the Kings have bounced back from being down but the Devils denied them of doing that last night. With determination and willingness to get this game over and won the Devils have now forced the Kings to sit and contemplate for the next two days and wonder if they just blew their chance of winning the Stanley Cup.
You do have to remember the Kings are still up 3-1 in games and that the Devils have a very large hill to climb to even think of coming back to win this series but stranger things have happened for sure.
What it will take for the Devils to at least get to game 6 is a even better performance then what they put on last night. They will need to have all offence chargers going and Brodeur will need to stand on his head once again and out battle Quick shot for shot. Can it be done, for sure it can. Will it be done is the bigger question and the only answer we know is, time will tell!
